The Alaska State Firefighter's Association is comprised of firefightersss the State of Alaska.  Each Firefighter is a member of a local chapter.  Chapters generally encompass an entire Fire Department.  The annual fees for each chapter are based on the population served by that chapter. 

 The Alaska State Firefighter's Association offers many benefits to our members, they include:

  • Scholarships for Dependants
  • Ken Akerly Training Grant (for annual conference)
  • Death and Disability Benefit of $10,000
    • Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance- $10,000 Benefit*In the United States, accidents are the number one cause of death among people under the age 38, and the fifth leading cause of death overall. Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance (AD&D insurance) from Provident helps provide added protection for Volunteer firemen and emergency medical responders.*Volunteer firefighters and emergency responders are covered by our AD&D insurance while performing any activity of their organization, and when they are off duty. Members are covered 24 hours a day for injuries sustained anywhere in the world, and this includes riding as a passenger in any aircraft being used for the transportation of passengers.*Our AD&D coverage includes a Seat Belt Benefit which is an additional 10% of the AD&D benefit that may be payable if an insured person dies as the result of an accident in any vehicle while he or she was wearing a seat belt.

Life Membership Requirements

Life membership in the Alaska State Firefighters Association qualifications are:

  • 20 years active in the Alaska fire service,

  • 10 years as an ASFA member in an active chapter, 

  • Or a member who has been permanently disabled in the line of duty.

    Nomination letters for Life Membership should be submitted to the Life and Honorary Membership committee so action may be taken. Nomination letters shall include years of service to the Chapter and Department/Departments that they were active in. Nominations should be submitted through the local chapter president.Email nominations to the Life Membership Committee at life-membership@alaskastatefirefighters.org.
